Observing

Kindergarten with Ms. Lisa

This is my 10th year teaching at Whitworth, my third year teaching Kindergarten.
My first seven years at Whitworth I taught 2nd and 3rd grade. I have great affection
for this school and community. I've lived in the Whitworth neighborhood for over
twenty years and two of my children attended Whitworth.

The year in a nutshell...

Students will:
- Build social skills in our day to day
activities and using the 2nd Step
curriculum

- Write daily in a Writer's Workshop

- Master letter recognition and achieve
a level of phonemic awareness so that they
can identify initial, ending and medial
sounds of words

- Primarily using the TERC Investigations
math curriculum, work on:
rote counting, counting objects, number
identification, naming shapes, pattern
recognition, approximate measurement,
comparing more and less, interpreting data,
and problem solving.

- Study science units - Animals2x2, Fabric, and
Wood using the NSF inquiry- based kits.

- In Social Studies, study Communities,
beginning with families, school, the
greater community, and on to the world

We'll be busy!
