Whitman Weekly

November 16, 2009

This Wednesday is a Whitman Only Early Dismissal:  Students will be dismissed two hours early this Wednesday, November 18.  This is an early dismissal for Whitman only and is not district wide.

All School International Potluck This Thursday: Please plan to attend the All School International Potluck THIS THURSDAY, November 19, 6 -8 pm. Bring a dish to share which reflects your cultural heritage (or something you like to make) and join Whitman staff and families for a nice evening with lots of yummy food.  Where clothing which reflects your cultural heritage!  The band will play, and there will be student art displayed for you to admire! This event is FREE and not to be missed!  It is also the 50th anniversary of Whitman's dedication as a school!! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Peg Radford at prad94@gmail.com or 206-706-0828.  Hope to see you there!

AGC donations at $21000!  Thanks to all of the Whitman families and supporters who have helped raise $21000 as of the end of October.  We are well on our way to our goal of $58500.  Let’s continue the momentum.  Please donate by mail, 9201 15th Ave NW, Seattle 98117, website www.seattleschools.org/schools/whitman, or walk your donation into the front office.  All AGC donations will benefit each and every student at Whitman.

Whitman Food Drive Last Until Friday:  Keep bringing in those cans of food!  The 7th grade is currently in the lead for most pounds of food collected.  Bring in canned, boxed, non-perishable food items (breakfast and lunch items are especially appreciated) and leave them on the table in front of the main door in the area for your grade level.  Remember 6th Graders Ms. De Vargas is matching you pound for pound!

Split Sibling School Assignments Update:  The school district needs to hear from you about split sibling school assignments!  After the School Board votes on the new Student Assignment Plan boundaries on November 18, the district will begin work immediately on the Transition Plan, with the goal of finalizing it in early January.  Part of that plan is for the district to send a survey to parents at that time to collect information about families with split siblings.  In the meantime, Tracy Libros, Manager of Enrollment and Planning Services, requests information on how many potentially split siblings are in each school, especially now that the boundaries have been revised. Please email this information to Tracy Libros at trlibros@seattleschools.org.  Please pass this on to any families you know who may be affected by this.

BASKETBALL TRYOUTS:  Attention all grades, boys & girls basketball tryouts are coming up!  All Tryouts are 2:45-4:15 P.M. in the Whitman gym

Girls Basketball Tryouts for All Grades:

Monday, November 16 (Girls on the varsity soccer team will be excused out of Monday's tryout if they have a game that day), Tuesday, November 17 & Thursday, November 19

All students MUST have a current physical on file in order to tryout (check with the nurse or main office if you are not sure if your physical is current)

Yearbook Sales:  Yearbooks will on sale this week, November 9 through November 20.  If you have a yearbook order that you have not turned in, please wait until the November sale.  A reminder that we only order a set, limited amount of yearbooks each year and once they are gone, they are gone!
