The Whitman Jazz Band is open to students of all grade levels. All you need is a desire to play and practice and improve. Jazz band meets after school on Mondays from 2:30 to 4:30.

   Students do not have to be a member of the other bands at Whitman to be eligible for Jazz Band.

   Students must be able to read music in order to participate. Instrumentation includes electric guitar, electric bass, drums, piano, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, trumpets, tuba, baritone and trombones.

   This band meets every Monday after school from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Students must be picked up at 4:30. The Jazz band will perform approximately three or four times in the spring.

   Students should be at a sufficient skill level to be able to sight-reading skills, play major scales through three sharps and three flats, chromatic scale (2 octaves), This band will play 4 or 5 pieces of music in varying styles.

   This is a Jazz band, and students will be given opportunities for improvization, and ensemble play.
