Band Ensembles
There is a band for each grade level at Whitman- 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band. The band director is Mr. Orsen, who comes from the University of Washington and student taught at Ballard High School. He is very excited to be here at Whitman and already is very impressed with the talented students at Whitman.
Grade Level Bands:
Grade level bands are open to all students whether they have played an instrument previously or not.
Classroom Rules and Expectations
Music rehearsals are built on respect. To perform a piece of
music together is to have several people working as a cohesive unit.
Disrespect therefore disrupts the music, the rehearsal, and all
participating.
Examples of disrespect include (but are not limited to):
• Not having instrument or music
• Being careless with or damaging the instruments, school or privately
owned
• Being careless with or damaging equipment (such as music stands)
• Criticizing or making fun of other students
• Off-task behavior
• Not paying attention to whoever is addressing the class
• Arguing or disagreeing with someone in a disrespectful way
Remember that each group is a team and in order to succeed it is
important for each member to behave properly and with a good
attitude—including the director.
Another option for lessons and practice time is the Music Tutoring Program offered after school at Whitman. Click to see the Music tutoring flyer. or contact Scott Radford (swradford@msn.com) for more information.
