Whitman Afterschool Activities program, also called "Out of School Time" (OST), is run
through Seattle Parks and Recreation and gives middle school aged students the opportunity
to explore interests they might not be able to do within school hours. There are many
programs students can choose; from Multi-Media Art to Yoga to Magic: The Gathering.
Students can even come after school and get help with their homework or enhance their skills
in a certain subject. Many activities start in the fall and continue until June while others
change every session based on what the students decide they want to participate in. Students
who attend after school activities receive a snack after school and a ride home when the
activity is over at 4:30.
During the 2006-2007 school year, Whitman Middle School students saw 33 programs happen during
each session of After School Activities. Drama and sports sessions attracted the greatest student
attendance, but every activity was greeted with awesome attendance. This year, we are looking for
many new activities and lots of input from students as to the activities they want to see.
Course descriptions will be posted when they have been finalized. OST classes begin September 24th.
Whitman Wildcats (and Kate Bainbridge) make OST a fabulous program.
