Library Hours
The library opens at 7:15 AM and closes at 3:15 PM. Students are welcome to come to the library at lunch if no classes are scheduled to use the computers, play chess or checkers, and talk with friends. If you want to come to the library to study, research, or read quietly, you may come even if there is a class scheduled. Just stop by the library to get a pass.
You can access the library even when it's not open! Connect to the Library Services Online Student Resources at http://www.seattleschools.org/area/library/stuindex.xml Passwords to use the many databases are available in the library from Mrs. Gustafson or Mrs. Bowman. You can use this page to reach all the databases you see at school, plus links to Citation Machine, our school library catalogue, and the public libraries with their wonderful database collections.
Wildcats Read Yearlong Reading Contest
Every Whitman student is encouraged to read at least one Wildcats Read book each year. To enter the weekly drawing, read a book from the Wildcats Read list and tell Mrs. Gustafson or Mrs. Bowman about it. They'll enter your name in the coffee can on the library counter. Wildcats Read winners will be announced weekly in the bulletin and will receive gift certificates. We'll keep track of the numbers of boys and girls who enter each month. If the boys have the most entries for the month, we'll draw names of boys from the coffee can for the monthly prizes, and if girls have the most entries, we'll draw girl's names. Wildcats Read books are selected to appeal to the wide range of reading abilities and interests at Whitman Middle School.
