Whitman Library User Guide
Some rules and truths about the Whitman Library:- There are no overdue fines (!).
- Books can be checked out for two weeks.
- Books can be renewed (please bring book in to renew it.
- You must use your ID card to check out materials.
- You can get a new ID for $2 should you lose your's.
- You can check out two books at one time and can have a maximum of three books out.
- You will have to pay for lost or damaged books.
- You will have Internet access unless your parents request that you don't.
Important things to remember when using the library:
- Put any materials you use away and push in your chair.
- Use a quiet voice.
- Abide by the computer use policy.
- Do not bring food or drink into the library.
- Treat library materials like your own.
- Keep coats and backpacks elsewhere.
- Ask for help when you need it.
- Make us proud of your behavior!
Library Computer Rules:- There is a no games or steaming video policy in the library.
- Students will notalter any settings on the computer.
- Students will not damage computer equipment.
- Students will ask permission before printing and will print only materials for coursework.
- Students will not access chat rooms, e-mail, or post personal information on a website.
- Students will not let others use their personal password.
- Students will not alter the files of other students.
- Students will only save files in their personal file that are appropriate for educational use.
- Students will not just rely on the computer filter, but will use good judgment, accessing only appropriate web sites.
If your teacher wants you to check out a book or work on a project during class time, he/she can give you a pass to the library. If there are two or more students from the same class, have your teacher call us or send us a note asking if there is room for you. You are welcome as long as there is space. Always show your pass when you come to the library. When you are ready to go back to class, ask Mrs. Gustafson or Mrs. Bowman to sign your pass, then head straight to class.
During Lunch
After you finish eating your lunch, you may come to the library. You can talk quietly to your friends, play checkers or chess, read, do work, or check out books.
Before and After School
The library opens at 7:00am and closes at 3:00pm, except when there are after school activities. Ask to be sure the library will be free if you want to stay after school. Make sure your parents/guardians know you are coming early or staying late and arrange for transportation home yourself.
