City Champs

.....Since 2000, View Ridge has been participating in the Global Reading Challenge. This program promotes reading fiction and nonfiction books that celebrate the world's diverse community. It is a collaborative effort between public and school libraries to promote the love of reading and to have fun while doing it. Each Fall 4th and 5th graders are given a chance to be a member of a team that will compete in the challenge. Ten books are selected and provided for each team by the Seattle Public Library. Children begin reading and preparing for the challenges which take place in March. Preliminary challenges are held at each school, which results in winning teams moving on to semifinals. Semifinal winners advance to the Grand Final, where a Seattle champion is declared. Finally, an Internet Final between the Seattle team and a Kalamazoo, Michigan team is held.
