Dear Visitor, Welcome to Van Asselt Elementary School. Van Asselt is located in the South Beacon Hill area in Seattle, Washington and stands on part of the 300-acre original homestead donated by Henry Van Asselt, one of the first pioneer settlers of King County and for whom the school is named. It was the first school built on the Southend of Seattle as a one-room schoolhouse in 1862. In 1907, a four-room school building took its place. This historical landmark, having been upgraded twice, is still in use today and is fondly referred to as the "Old Building." The spacious 'new' building was built in 1951. Van Asselt Elementary has always served a diverse student population. Presently, we serve 400 bilingual, special education and regular education students. Thank you, Hajara Rahim |
