Though few Black Americans have gained fame in Tennis, two great tennis players were Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe.

Althea Gibson

Claim to fame:

 

Althea Gibson was the first Black person to win the Wimbledon title in 1957. She was ranked number one in the world among women players in 1957 and 1958.

   

Arthur Ashe

Claim to fame:

 

Arthur Ashe was the first Black man to win the title at Wimbledon in 1975.
