There have been many talented Black instrumentalists. They should be remembered because of how they affected the music culture.

 

"Duke" Ellington

Claim to fame:

 

Duke Ellington created over 1,000 jazz songs and orchestra music. He played for kings, queens, and presidents of the United States.

   

Louis Armstrong

Claim to fame:

 

Louis Armstrong was a great jazz saxophone player and singer. He invented a new improvisational style that influenced many others.

   

Chuck Berry

Claim to fame:

 

Chuck Berry was a guitarist who helped create rock'n'roll by his popular music style.

   

Jimi Hendrix

Claim to fame:

 

Jimi Hendrix, though unable to read or write music, taught himself to play the guitar. He created a new musical form with his electric guitar that influences many musicians today.
