Counseling Program 2008-2009

Student Council serves as a democratic method or all
members of our school to have a say in the operation o the school. The
Student Council keeps the students, principal, and teachers informed of each
others’ ideas, needs, and opinions.
The Student Council also makes sure that everyone in our school
cooperates in the day-to-day responsibilities of being part of a school
community, enjoys improvements and special activities, and works together on
specific problems. The council gives students a chance to learn about the
democratic process and leadership. |
1. Members are selected from grades
2,3,4 and 5. Each class elects 2
representatives at the beginning o the school year to serve or that
year.

Officers will be elected from the 5th grade candidates at the
beginning of the
school year to serve for that year.
3. Students will only be allowed to serve or 2 consecutive years.
4.
Students will follow the Student Code o Conduct. Removal from the Council
will be applied when a member does not comply with the code.
5. Council members have good school attendance, including being on time.
6. No Council member grade should be below “satisfactory”
7. Grade K and 1 can be elected as Council Interns with limited voting right.

Secretary
Take minutes(notes at Bi-weekly Student Council Meetings)
Type and distribute meeting minutes within 4 days of the meeting
Maintain a binder o all Student Council Meetings
Post approved minutes on webpage with 5 days o Student Council meetings
Work with Student Council advisor on ideas and/or activities throughout the school
Assist with Student Council events/activities

Peace Manager is a structured conflict
resolution program where students are taught to be effective problem solvers
to help resolve playground conflicts and/or hallways before adult
intervention occurs. Peace Manager is comprised of fourth and fifth grade
students who perform well in the classroom academically, show good
citizenship, and are positive role models for other students. In addition,
Peace Managers must be dependable, responsible, and keep up with all school
assignments. All interested candidates should fill out an application to
apply for the position and complete the trainings. Peace Manager is an excellent opportunity for our
students to perform service and leadership skills for our school. Peace
Manager assists with supervision at morning and lunch recesses and has
learned through experience to focus on the positive behavior off others. It is part of a school leadership program developed in
the school which students will help other students better and peacefully
solve conflict. Peace Manager will work to keep the peace on school
ground by making sure all children have safe, fun activities to take part in
during recess and free academic time. |

For the 2008-2009 School Year, We will train 12 Peace
Managers

Individual students will be referred by classroom
teachers, staff and parents for specific concerns and issues. These students
will be served individually according to their needs and their parental
permissions/requirements. |

Groups with common interests and concerns will be
grouped together and served as a group |
|
Students with academic concerns will be referred to S.I.T. for intervention and services. The team members are School Principal, School Counselor, School Psychologist, School Nurse, Special Ed. Teacher, Family Support Worker, Reading Coach and Math Coach. |
