T. T. Minor Elementary Peace Patrol Training Dear Parents of ______________________: Your child _________________________________, has been
selected by the counselor and his or her teachers to be trained as a Peace
Patrol. Your child was chosen because he or she is perceived by teachers and
others as someone who: 1.
Is easy to get along with and is capable of helping
others. 2.
Has the personal traits of : acceptance, patience, consistency, a sense of humor, and
caring about others. 3.
Has positive attitudes towards peers, school, and
adults, 4.
Is a good student and overall good citizen. Peace Patrols work with other students who are in
conflict as well as guidance assistants in conflict/violence prevention
projects. They are trained by the School Counselor to be effective
communicators. In addition, they are given systematic training in
interpersonal and mediation skills which they use to help other students talk
about their ideas and feelings as they work through their disputes. They also
work with others in carefully organized and supervised conflict resolution
activities. As they help others learn and solve conflicts, they learn about
themselves. Peace Patrol/Mediators are regarded as positive leaders
in our school. They are expected to keep up with their school work and their
behavior should set a good example for others. Your child has made the
commitment to make up any academic assignments missed while working on a
mediation project. Some of the projects may include videotaping. Therefore,
please complete the form below and have your child return it to his/her
