WELCOME! The Thurgood Marshall PTSA is eager to start the new school year. With the creation of our new school community, we have a wonderful opportunity to build a supportive, challenging learning environment for our kids that includes plenty of social and cultural events to enrich their experience. Our success depends, as always, on volunteers, and we hope you will find a way to become involved that fits your schedule, your availability, your skills and your passions.

Join us for a Welcome Back Gathering for families on Wednesday, September 2nd , from 5-7pm on the school's field. Bring your own picnic dinner. Cold lemonade will be provided. Grade-level markers will help students and their families to meet, reconnect, and join in group games. Teachers are also invited to greet their incoming classes.

Our first General PTSA Meeting will take place on Tuesday evening, September 22nd in the school lunchroom. Dinner will be provided at 6:30pm, with childcare and business meeting from 7 to 8:30. Help choose of the PTSA events we want to hold this school year! The proposed PTSA Budget will be presented for approval, including allocations for assemblies, classroom grants for all teachers, experts-in-residence, facility enhancement, field trips, grade-level events, the library, technology, and support for the drama, music, writing and social skills programs. With a generous carry-over from last year's Lowell PTSA budget (split evenly between Lowell and Thurgood Marshall), we have a solid financial base from which to start.

Beginning this year, we would like to institute an Annual Fund for fundraising to support all our fantastic PTSA programs. An Annual Fund is simply an opportunity to send a contribution, in whatever amount your family feels comfortable. Although no set amount is expected, we hope that every family will contribute something, be it $5 or $5,000. An Annual Fund frees up our valuable volunteer energy for programs and is the easiest way to support your child's school. In addition to the Annual Fund, there may be smaller fund-raising/community-building events throughout the year, such as a rummage sale, bake sale, walkathon, book fair, and t-shirt sale. Of course, we always welcome non-monetary help of all kinds.
