Moore, Brian Vance (ex-officio), Peter Wolfe, Rick Green, Marlee Garza,
Brittnee Garza, Diane Jones Smedley, Andy Bartman
I.
Review of last meeting
A. People volunteered for positions: Rick – Treasurer;
Bob and Diane – co-chairs; Wendy- Secretary; Peter – community-
building. Marlee’s strength and interest is in the arts. Andy volunteered
to be a Community Rep to the CSCA.
B.
We have about $40K in CSCA to start the year, although our District budget
is about $70,000 less. These are possible ways to use the money:
1) $20,000 for Rep, which represents a significant discount for them
2) Music workshop -- $3000
3) Dick Lee— $10,000 @$1000/month to help with fundraising and/or
auction and/or not at all. In addition to the auction, for the $1000/month
he could help with
a. Direct appeal (letter at beginning of year)
b. On-line auction in late November
c. Dine-out at the 5-Spot with proceeds going to CSCA. Teachers as servers?
d. Auction. One Reel is interested in working with us again.
We’ll ask DICK to give us an estimate of how much he thinks he can
raise with these efforts.
4) Literary Arts class– $6900
5) Nurse one more day a week -- $6700
6) Writers in the Schools -- $5000
7) Mini-grants for teachers -- $8000
8) Pottery NW – $5000, completely covered by Seattle Center
9) Second semester Drama 1 class
II.
Initial budget decisions
A. Brian’s top priorities are 1) Rep with or without
second semester Drama 1, 2) something with One Reel with music (based
on funds raised at auction), 3) Dick Lee.
B. If we’re going to add a class and/or work with
Dick Lee and/or RN, we need to decide before school starts.
C. We’ll have an “official” budget
meeting to set 05-06 budget.
D. M/S: That we approve Rep relationship, Dick Lee retainer,
Music, RN
1) M/S/P fund Rep at $20,0000
2) Dick Lee—we want to get more from him than just the auction for
the same amount of money. We need to know what his goal is. Our goal is
to raise $100,000.
M/S/P to provisionally fund Dick Lee at $10,000, based on his fundraising
goal and outline of additional efforts.
3) RN at one more day/week. Discussion—even if we decided to pay
for more time, Brian would have to go back to her supervisor to see if
she could even come her. Brian would rather put money into the classroom.
Could we use SSIA to share resources with McClure, which is the other
school where Eileen is assigned? RICK will f/u with Lisa Moore about this.
M/S/P Table this item until “official” budget meeting
4) M/S/P to table music workshop funding discussion, too.
III.
Welcome Event
A. BRIAN will contact students to do something for new
students
B. Food (potluck? Pizza?) and speaker for welcoming event.
World’s Greatest Sports Fan? Other speaker? Appeal for participation.
Have people (teachers, parents, students) available to answer questions.
PETER will write the letter for the Welcome Packet by Monday Aug. 15;
will pick date with BRIAN.
IV.
Completion of the investiture
A. RICK will develop an email saying that ad-hoc committee
has come up with this slate and ask for write-in candidates. He’ll
prepare ballot for vote on Curriculum Night.
B. By-laws and Standing Rules need to be reviewed. Issues
for review include standing committees, names of officers, elections.
BOB and DIANE will perform gap analysis of PTA by-laws and bring a summary
of this to the next meeting.
V.
