Curriculum
- Reading: Students will learn the alphabet and letter sounds. They will learn to read simple repetitive books. They will learn some site words and word families.
- Math: Kindergartners will learn to make patterns, count, name shapes, and combine numbers in different ways.
- 2nd Step: We will explore and discuss feelings and appropriate social interactions.
- Social Studies: Students will learn about the community and world in which they live.
- Students will learn at their own level and will receive instruction based on their individual needs.
Expectations
Students are expected to follow the routines and procedures of the class. These routines and procedures will be discussed, modeled, and practiced in the first few weeks of school and throughout the year. Students will be encouraged and rewarded as they discover how to be successful learners!
Students will be expected to follow the classroom rules. A pocket chart will help encourage students to do their best. Students will be encouraged as they discover the joys of learning.
Parent-Teacher Partnership
- Read for 20-30 minutes every night!
- Tuesday Take-home Packets: Information from the office will be sent home on Tuesdays with the eldest child in each family.
- Friday Folders: Homework and communications from the teacher (return by Wed.)
- Snack: Please bring a box of crackers for the first few weeks of school.
- Field Trips: We will be going on several field trips this year. We will be going to the Children's Theatre at Seattle Center three times this year. I also plan to visit the zoo and hopefully a couple other places. These field trips will cost $10 or less each.
- Volunteers: I welcome volunteers. Let me know how you can help and when. I'll let you know when I can use specific help in the Friday Folders. The best time to be in the class is from 9:30 to 10:30 everyday during reading. The more adults during that time means more individual reading instruction for your kids!
The First Day of School
On the first day of school, feel free to help your child find their coat hook and desk, take pictures and help them get settled in.
The Parent Tea starts at 9:15 in the Library. I ask that all parents be out of the room by 9:20.
We have lots of big windows. Please do not wait for your child where they can see you. It can be very disruptive. I'll remind you!
Before & After School
There will be no supervision at school until 8:45. At that time, students may eat breakfast in the cafeteria or play outside.
Please don't stand in front of the windows waiting. If you are picking up by car, please do so in the back of the school.
If you are picking up your child early, please go to the office and sign them out first.
