What is your curriculum?
All three classes follow distric and state learning standards using adopted curricula in addition to other resources. This is a general outline culled from all three teachers.
Literacy
- Curricula: Houghton-Mifflin and various book titles and resources
- Learning sounds and letters, sight words, and reading fluency
Writing
- Curricula: The Write Direction and other resources
- Writing to learn, Writing to Tell a Story, Writing to Describe, Writing to Inform, Communication
Mathematics
- Curricula: Investigations in Number, Data, and Space and other resources
- Fall: Getting to know numbers/addition and subtraction and patterns
- Winter: Data collection, continued addition and subtraction
- Spring: Measurement, continued addition and subtraction
Science
- Curricula: National Science Foundation kits
- Animals, Wood, Fabric
Social Studies
- Our geographical focus is Central and South America. We integrate the study of this area of the world into our writing, reading, math, art, and science study. Each year the school focuses on a different continent. After a full attendance at Sacajawea, the students have been uniquely introduced to the world.
- Curricula: Second Step, a socialization curriculum is used in all Kindergarten classes
Art
- Curricula: Art Connections, as well as teacher-created lessons from many sources
Physical Education and Gateways
- P.E. is taught by Mr. Roger Palmer
- Gateways is taught by Mrs. Joni Pecor and Lassie Webster
What are the specials?
Full-day classes receive 1 special - P.E. or Gateways - per day, based on the week (A, B, or C week). Half-day classes are afforded some specials, schedule permitting. All classes receive one library session once weekly and work with buddies from other grade levels.
