Personal and Professional History

I have been happily working at Sacajawea Elementary for 10 years teaching First Grade. Prior to Sacajawea, I taught Special Education/Kindergarten for 10 years at Wedgwood Elementary. I also taught Special Education at both Lowell and VanAsselt Elementary Schools. Before joining the Seattle Public School team of teachers, I worked as a Community College Instructor at both NSCC and BCC, as well as taught in the Head Start Program. In all 28 years of teaching I'd have to say that I enjoy the magic of first grade the most!

When not teaching, I love to be outdoors, especially if I can be hiking, skiing or hanging out on the beach with a good book.

Philosophy and Curriculum

Our first grade curriculum is child centered, inquiry-based and differentiated. Room 7 is a place where children feel valuable as contributors to our learning community.

Parent-Teacher Partnership

I welcome parents in the classroom with open arms. Actually, I could not do what I do without parent help on a daily basis!
