Personal and Professional History
Joni Pecor has been teaching in Seattle Public Schools for the past nine years. She has worked as a 4th and 5th grade classroom teacher for the majority of her career. Her Masters Thesis was focused in the area of multi-cultural education and social justice. She was involved with the visual arts consortium between the Seattle International Children's Festival and the John Stanford International School. Her visual arts background and training includes drawing and painting.
Joni participated in the World Affairs Council: Linking Lands teacher exchange project in a village outside of Arusha, Tanzania, Africa. She has studied and immersed herself in cultures through a variety of work abroad and travel experiences. Joni has developed her instructional expertise in literacy and science.
In addition to teaching Gateways, she teaches 4th grade science and writing three afternoons a week in room 104. She is a mother of a two year old daughter, Ella, and is expecting another child April of 2008.
