Personal and Professional History
Lassie Webster has devoted her life to working with people of all ages in the creative arts. In 1987 she created the Kindergarten Arts Program at Kimball Elementary School. She then went on to offer the program at Wedgwood Elementary, where she taught for eight years. In 1997, Lassie opened the Roaring Mouse Creative Arts Studio, an art school for children based on the philosophies developed in Kindergarten Arts Program. She came to Sacajawea in 1998 to offer the Kindergarten Arts Program again. Lassie has also acted as a consultant to teachers, counselors, and school districts for her expertise in creative arts and social skills development.
Lassie recieved her training at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she studied with Anna Deveare Smith. She received her B.A. from Antioch University, Seattle, with a concentration in Arts and Literature. She has been nominated for the Washington State Golden Apple Awards (1992), was selected for the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers Awards" (1994), and was considered for the "Teaching Tolerance" early childhood teaching project in 1995. Most recently, Lassie was awarded the Seattle Parks and Recreation Artie Award (2000) and The Sacajawea PTA Outstanding Educator Award (2002).
