About Sacajawea Elementary School
Sacajawea's entire staff is dedicated and committed to assuring that the needs of all children are met. All students are provided a rigorous academic program at their level of need and are consistently encouraged and motivated to stretch themselves even further. Going along with our vision, we also believe in engaging our students in their learning by differentiating instruction based on their readiness, interests and learning styles.
Philosophy
Our vision at Sacajawea is "Educating for Human Greatness - Developing each child as a great human being who is a valuable contributor to society." We do this through integrating three components into our teaching. These components are identity, interaction, and inquiry.

Sacajawea' Statistics
Our Annual Geographic Focus
Sacajawea Elementary is studying South America for the 2006/2007 school year. Each year the school studies a different geographic focus. Over the course of a student's six years at Sacajawea, he or she will have traveled around the world and learned the arts, music, literature, geography, and current issues of each continent.
Last year we focused on Asia. Students learned about the vast area of Asia, sampled the cuisine from Russia to Japan, learned about the works of noted scientists in Asian countries, raised money for Pakistan relief efforts and Bangladesh safe water sources, and became aware of the many cultural celebrations in Asian countries.

School Governance
Sacajawea operates with an Accelerated School form of governance. Emphasis is placed on parent involvement at the committee level. The charge of the committees is determined by the school's Transformation Plan, which includes our school vision, mission, goals and action items. The committees focus on the school's various challenges, issues and projects. The committees make recommendations to the staff, school team and PTA (one of the PTA's Board of Directors serves as liaison for School Governance).
