ARTS IMPACT |
||
You may notice a new emphasis on the arts at Roxhill this year. Your children may tell you about doing a “Brain Dance”, or about learning to “move like a grizzly bear” or leaning “how to draw contour lines.” Toward the end of August seven Roxhill teachers attended a workshop in the Seattle Art Museum . For an entire week, they worked closely with three of the finest teaching artists in the state of Washington . Together they drew, painted, danced, projected their voices, performed pantomimes, created and acted in short dramas. They were immersed, in theatre, dance and art all week long and they loved it. They will be bringing their experiences back to Roxhill in the form of lessons that explore the connection between the arts and reading and writing. A core belief of Arts Impact is that students in an “arts infused classroom” will become better in reading, writing and mathematics. Each of the seven Roxhill teachers will have the opportunity to have a Mentor Artist come and co-teach lessons to their classes this year . Additionally, students in these classes will be given the gift of a “study visit” to Seattle Art Museum , Seattle Children's Theatre or Pacific Northwest Ballet. Teachers ended their memorable week at the museum by creating a project in dance, visual arts or theatre. See if you can recognize Roxhill teachers in the photos from their performances. |
