Creek Stewardship at John Rogers Elementary
Through a partnership with the Seattle Public Utilities Creek Stewardship Program, John Rogers has become a site steward for a section of the Thornton Creek shoreline, within the Meadowbrook Pond boundary. We had several work parties last year, during which we cleared invasive plants, such as English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry, and rolled it all into a huge “burrito!” We also planted several new trees at our site. Our goal is to help improve the creek habitat for spawning salmon and other wildlife.
Creek Stewardship is a family-oriented program, with work parties held either after school, or on the weekend. If your family is interested in participating in this exciting environmental education opportunity, please contact Kim McCormick, Work Party Leader, at kim.mccormick@comcast.net, or 206-362-3378.
