Math
Club at John Rogers Elementary
(Goal
of Club: to attend the Math Olympiad in May)
The
focus of the Math Club will be on deepening students skills and
understanding in math through solving rich math problems,
playing math games, developing team work, and commitment. In
early May, those students who have demonstrated the
characteristics of a good team player and a commitment to the
club will attend the Math Olympiad event.
Math
Olympiad is a special math event held statewide, in which grade
level teams participate in solving problems. The curriculum for
math club consists of solving problems used in past Math
Olympiad competitions and playing math games.
In
order for John Rogers to join in, we need parent coaches who are
interested in participating. Parent coaches do not have to be math experts. Qualities
of a good parent coach include: patience, reliability, skill in
managing student behavior with kindness and respect, an interest
in solving math problems, and the knowledge that math problems
often have one right answer, but many ways to get there.
The
club will meet after school on Tuesdays from
3:15 – 4:00
.
