Physical Education at John Rogers Elementary School

Physical education at John Rogers, more commonly known as 'gym', focuses on improving the health and fitness level of every student at every grade level. By using a variety of activities, the PE specialist hopes to promote active and healthy lifestyles for the Roger's community. Students at Rogers will participate in the school district's curriculum that is designed to emphasize lifetime sport and fitness skills. The curriculum incorporates activities that focus on improving one's self-esteem, listening skills, ability to follow multi-step oral directions, and, of course, physical/athletic skills.
 
Class activities include, but are certainly not limited to, ball sports (basketball, football, soccer, etc.), marching/dancing, jump roping, stretching, cooperative play, and, when possible due to equipment/financial needs, archery, rollerblading, and bicycling. Swimming is also part of the John Rogers curriculum, but it is not one of the PE specialist's activities.
