Hazelynne Floyd, Librarian
IT'S FUN TO READ!
Visit the Pathfinder K-8 Library, browse the shelves, Chat with Hazelynne or surf the Internet.
Research and common sense have shown at least 20 minutes of reading a day is required for academic excellence. That’s 20 minutes of a child reading alone, 20 minutes of a family reading together, 20 minutes of bedtime reading, or 20 minutes of a brother reading to a sister. Of course that 20 minutes is a minimum. By the time your student is in middle school silent reading should last at least three times that.
Please call me at 252-9747 or stop by the Library.
Students in grades 2-8 will be bringing library books home from school on weekly library days. Students in grades K-1 will be bringing books home only after the semester break in February. Please take some time to find a nice place for Pathfinder library books to live while they are visiting you at home.
Young Reader’s Choice books are voted on by students and are eligible for an award. The YRCA http://www.pnla.org/yrca/ was originally started in 1940 by a Seattle bookseller who was looking for ways to encourage young readers. The hope was, and still is, that if school and public libraries work together to promote reading for pleasure, then the life-long love of reading and learning will be instilled in youth.
Each year books are nominated by students and librarians. Once these books have been nominated students have until March to read at least two of the books and then vote for their favorite. Each school that participates has a winner and that winner is sent on to the national competition. Who ever has the most votes wins and is chosen as the Young Reader’s Choice winner.

Pathfinder School Library
Syllabus
“The teaching and learning of library and information skills is most
effective when using content related to what students are currently studying
in their classroom. The
students learn the specific searching skills necessary to find and use
information.” (Standards for
Library and Information Skills)
Standards for Library and Information Skills were used when creating this
syllabus. In addition to
scheduled rotation times, students will also be working with the librarian
on classroom/expedition projects and assignments.
