Native Advisory Board Description/ Purpose and Objectives

NAB’s Description/ Purpose:

Respect our Seventh Generation by facilitating Pathfinder’s work on the Native American foundation from which we teach about a variety of cultures.

Membership:

The Native Advisory Board is open to all who wish to join and work toward NAB’s purpose and objectives. NAB strives for a diverse membership, which includes Native American families and those of many cultures, parents, staff, and PTSA and BLT representation.

Objectives:

  • Collect and distribute resources that support the core activities of Native Culture at Pathfinder: our classroom and school-wide culture studies, Culture Night, and cultural celebrations such as Salmon Homecoming.
  • Advise on and support best practices to teach students cultural education from our foundation of Native American culture studies (including the development of a family resources directory to include Native American resources and helpers for classroom and school support).
  • Provide staff development and support, in partnership with staff, for Native American history and culture studies.

* “Our Seventh Generation” is a term originally used by the Iroquois Nation to describe our children yet to come and remind us that all we do will effect those seven generations yet to come.
