2009 Pathfunder Auction

Saturday March 14th

What a Terrific Evening!  Nearly $60,000 - a school record - was raised at this wonderful event for Pathfinder!  We expect our expenses to be quite low and the net result to surpass expectations.

A full report will be published in the upcoming Compass but in the meantime, huge kudos to Auction Chair WENDY ECKERT and the entire Auction Committee for their dedication and fabulous work.

Many many thanks to all who donated items or asked others to donate, volunteered time before, during, and after the event, helped create fabulous kid-art, attended the auction and bought items.  What a special community we have here at Pathfinder!

Please support the local business who support our auction.  Click here for a complete list and links to company websites.

Auction Fund-a-Need

Every year we provide the opportunity to give direct donations toward a particular need or program.  This year, we asked for support in funding the transition to our new location in the fall.  This is an important chapter in Pathfinder's history and we want to do it in a meaningful way - including rituals, celebrations, and the practicalities of  moving our home of 14 years to our new building.  Contributions are still being accepted - they are fully tax-deductible, eligible for corporate matching funds if your company has such a program, and very much appreciated!

A fabulous video, produced by Owl & Otter Clan Dad Chris Harvey and featuring photographs by Machel Spence, Eagle Clan Parent, was shown at the auction.  Thank you Chris & Machel!

Group Events

Thanks to our generous and talented staff and hosting families, we had an amazing array of group events offered this year and raisied over $8.000!  Your host(s) will be in touch with details as the event you signed up for gets closer.

Where There's a Will, There's a Way Award

Congratulations to this year's recipient - Lou Cutler, PE Teacher Extraordinaire!!

At our school, we listen to the teachings of the First Nations. One thing you can learn from those cultures - or just from spending time in the real world - is there are many ways to go on a journey, many ways to reach a goal. The best way up a mountain is not always straight up the flank, but might be by taking switchbacks, trying one trail, abandoning it for a better route, and listening to those who have climbed it before. The best way across the water might not be by paddling directly, but by using the currents, knowing the tide, watching the weather and being ready to change. It's different in every case.

Those people who use their wisdom to help others find their right way are called Pathfinders.  Each year, we honor a teacher, staff member or adult volunteer in the Pathfinder K-8 community who does an outstanding job of helping our children learn and develop, and does so in the spirit of Pathfinder K-8 - through dedication, innovative thinking, creativity and honoring the differences, strengths and uniqueness of each child.

That spirit once helped a boy named Will, whose educational success at Pathfinder K-8 was due to people willing to match his own determination to work through the challenges of his Asperger's Syndrome. In honor of them, and of him, his parents George Tibbits & Angel DiChellis created this annual award, presented during the Pathfinder K-8 PTSA Auction.

Thank you to everyone who submitted candidates - what a tough choice as always!
