Where There's a Will, There's a Way Award
At our school, we listen to the teachings of the First Nations. One thing
you can learn from those cultures - or just from spending time in the real
world - is there are many ways to go on a journey, many ways to reach a
goal. The best way up a mountain is not always straight up the flank, but
might be by taking switchbacks, trying one trail, abandoning it for a better
route, and listening to those who have climbed it before. The best way
across the water might not be by paddling directly, but by using the
currents, knowing the tide, watching the weather and being ready to change.
It's different in every case.
Those people who use their wisdom to help others find their right way are
called Pathfinders.
Each year, we honor a teacher, staff member or adult volunteer in the
Pathfinder community who does an outstanding job of helping our children
learn and develop, and does so in the spirit of Pathfinder - through
dedication, innovative thinking, creativity and honoring the differences,
strengths and uniqueness of each child.
That spirit once helped a boy named Will, whose educational success at
Pathfinder was due to people willing to match his own determination to work
through the challenges of his Asperger's Syndrome. In honor of them, and of
him, his parents George Tibbits & Angel DiChellis created this annual award,
presented during the Pathfinder PTSA Auction.
It's time once again to nominate someone for the 5th Annual Where There's a
Will, There's a Way award. Last year's recipient was Janet Osborn, Salmon
Clan Teacher. Pathfinder is full of great candidates. To nominate someone,
please submit their name and a short note on why you think they should be
honored. Either drop it off at the office, attention to Angel DiChellis, or
send it by e-mail to Angel and George Tibbits at adgtwft@yahoo.com. Click here for a Nominee Form (also available at school). Nominations should be
submitted by Monday, March 3.
