PLAYGROUND REBUILD OVERVIEW

PHASE I: Repaint the kickball and four-square lines and the USA map on the asphalt “black-top” playground. This project was completed in June of 2007 by the Seattle Public Schools Maintenance Department.

PHASE II: Replace the 20 year-old blue playground equipment on the wood chips. Rip out the old, crumbling timbers around the wood chips. Install a new, concrete retaining wall around the border of the play area. Install four, commercial grade, recycled plastic, eight-foot benches at the play area. COST: $75,000

PHASE III: Refurbish the grass playing field and add landscaping. This project will require design and fundraising efforts in future years.

PHASE II PROGRESS TO DATE:
The committee has gotten proposals for playground equipment and we have identified KOMPAN as the company we would like to work with. The equipment has not yet been ordered, since the project is not yet fully funded. Currently, we are getting bids on building a concrete retaining wall which will surround the wood chip play area.

So far we have raised a total of $58,215! In order to complete Phase II we will need to raise $16,785 to be able to buy and install our exciting new play equipment. We must have the total project amount of $75,000 before we can order any equipment and plan the build (for which many of you have volunteered to help. Thank you!).

There are many ways you can help us meet our goal if you would like to help:

Buy a tile for $25. Are you or your children alumnae of Olympic View? Put your personal touch on our playground remodel! You or your child will create the tile artwork, and then the tile will be installed on the wall by the playground. To buy a tile come to the PTA table or the Office.

Buy a Bench for $1000 to honor or remember someone you love. The benches will have the name or names embossed on the bench. These benches are made of recycled plastic and are built to last through all kinds of use and weather. To buy a bench come to the PTA table or the Office.

Make a Donation: A simple tax-deductible donation is ALWAYS welcome. To donate by cash or check (payable to OVPTA) come to the PTA table or the Office. If you are thinking about buying a tile or making a donation, PLEASE do it now. We hope to raise the total by the end of this school year so that we can schedule the Playground Installation for late September 2008.
