At Olympic View, the PTA has a long-standing relationship of financial
and volunteer support of the school staff and administration, in order
to further our overall mission of ensuring an exceptional educational
experience for all children. We seek to involve as many parents, guardians
and extended family members as possible in our activities because family
engagement in a child’s school experience is a very strong predictor
of that child’s future academic and social success.
Listed below are several ways you can engage at
OV…
1) Join the PTA [membership
form]: When you become a member
of the Olympic View PTA, you will have made an important contribution
to all of our students. Your paid PTA membership gives you a vote in how
we spend the funds we raise and allows you to be an integral part in establishing
the priorities for every student’s success at OV. Your membership
also supports PTA’s statewide effort to improve education for every
child. For more information contact Denise
Schwend.
2) Attend PTA General Membership Meetings:
In addition to receiving information on topics like the math curricula,
legislative happenings within the district and state-wide, and parenting
issues, these meetings are where the wider membership has an opportunity
to voice opinions, vote on PTA spending, and become better-informed members
of the school community. The 2007-08 meetings are October 9, November
8, January 15, March 11 and May13.
3) Give financially: Your financial support
is crucial, especially for this year’s Giving
Campaign. This replaces the live auction fundraiser that we have every
other year, giving our fantastic volunteer corps a respite from the incredible
effort it takes to stage an event of that magnitude. The needs of the
school do not ebb and flow, however, they remain steady. The Giving Campaign
is your way to financially support the PTA so that we can continue our
substantial support of school programs in a “no auction” year.
Please consider making the gift that’s right for you and inquire
about company matching gifts with your employer!
4) Stay Informed: Visit the school website
regularly to stay informed and current with all the school happenings.
5) Give the gift of time: Volunteering at
Olympic View looks different to different people. Spend time in your child’s
classroom, helping with writer’s workshop, art projects, reading,
or chaperoning on field trips. Help Ms. Frederickson in the library, set
up for the carnival, prepare a dish for the multicultural dinner. It all
comes back to being part of that strong social network our children need
at every stage of their development. If you would like to volunteer contact
the OV volunteer coordinator, Sandy
Warner.
6) Attend Family Events: There are many
fun-filled family events planned throughout the year. Such as the Outdoor
Family Movie Night, the Fall Carnival, multi-cultural dinner, the drama
production, the Hootenanny talent show, the list is long! Check out the
monthly calendar for
up-to-date listings!
