Arts Council
2007- 08 Arts Council Chair - Jennifer Many

The Art Council formed several years ago and has been active in bringing arts-based programs to the school and to the classrooms. They meet on a monthly basis and will be coordinating the national PTA program “Reflections”, the Hootenanny talent show and ARTS Fair.

More on the Reflections Program
The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.

Each year, Reflections challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme. Themes are selected from thousands of ideas submitted by students to National PTA's Reflections Theme Search.

The Reflections theme for 2007-2008 is "I Can Make a Difference By...". Download your official entry form now. For more information visit the Washington State PTA's Reflections web page. **Submissions due November 16th**

We again encourage students to participate in this National PTA-sponsored arts competition. In the past we have had winners up to the State PTA level.

Science Council
2007-08 Science Council Chair - Keith Rickards

The Science Council sponsors after school science classes and the biannual Science Fair. They are dedicated to hands-on science in the classrooms. This year the science Council is pleased to bring the Pacific Science Center's program "Science on Wheels" to the students of Olympic View.

"This program delivers exciting, interactive science curriculum to schools in every county of Washington State. Science On Wheels offers one hour and forty-five minutes of student contact, making it the most extensive school outreach program in the country. A typical van visit to a school includes: a lively, 30-minute opening assembly, thirty interactive exhibits set up in the library or gym, and 5 to 15 individual classroom visits by Pacific Science Center teachers. Currently, Science On Wheels offers six subject areas designed for kindergarten through eighth grade students." [Pacific Science Center]

For more information on the program visit the Science on Wheels webpage.
