Attendance: please report any absences or tardy arrivals to the

After school program: 3 different sessions
of after school enrichment programs, supported by tuition and OVPTA scholarships
Allergies: The Olympic View lunchroom does
not serve food that containes nuts. Additionally, we happily accommodate
the medical needs of students with food and other allergies. Contact your
child’s teacher and our school nurse to discuss your child’s
particular needs.
Anti-Bullying: Olympic View is a bully-free
zone. We take the safety of our students seriously, and ask our parents
to assist us in reinforcing how not to be a bully or a victim of bullying.
Assemblies: There are a variety of assemblies
scheduled during the school year for our students and school community.

Auction: a live auction is held every other
year to raise funds for OVPTA. A smaller, silent auction takes place in
non-live auction years.

Book Fairs: Scholastic Books presents this fundraising opportunity
in the fall and the spring. The school library is transformed into your
favorite book store for the week!
Buddies: many of the younger (K, 1) and
older (4, 5) classrooms pair up as buddies for a variety of fun activities
throughout the school year.
Bus riders: policies regarding behavior
on the bus are included in your first day packet.
Bus zones: The north side of NE 95th directly
in front of the school and playground is a dedicated bus zone. There is
no parking here during school hours

Calendar: View the

Campus Clean-up: one-day event in the spring to spruce up the grounds
Carnival: fun, family-oriented event held
in the fall with great food, games, crafts
Computer Lab: located next to the library
and run by Tech Specialist, Arlene Hanson, students receive technology
instruction once each week for 30 minutes.
Conferences: Olympic View does not follow
the 7 early release day conference schedule used by other Seatle Schools.
Our conferences take place during 3 full-days – November XX. There
is no school for students during the three conference days.
Custodial Services: Franci Fretheim and
Claudio Davina are our school custodians.

Dismissal: Please be sure to notiy us of
any change in your child’s after-school transportation plans before
3:00 pm.
Drama Production: incredibly professional dramatic production,
usually done in late winter. Involving students in grades 3-5. Last year’s
The Three Musketeers sold out two shows at Nathan Hale’s Performing
Arts Center!

Eagles: OV’s mascot
Eagle newsletter: weekly update of happenings
around school. Available electronically or via kid mail.
Early Release Days: During the school year
there are 5 early release days scheduled to allow staff to have time for
professional development. Students are dismissed at 1:20 on early release
days.
Emergency Drills: Fire and earthquake drills are conducted several
times a year. Detailed escape plans are posted inside each classroom.

Family Support Worker: Anthony Cryer. He can be reached at 252-5515.
Fifth Grade Trip: As the culmination of
their year long study of early American History, 5th grade students and
parent chaperones travel to Boston in the spring to visit several prominent
historical sites and participate in educational programs.
Fourth Grade Camp: As part of their study
of Washington State History, students take a trip to learn more about
the geography and history of our state.

Gift Wrap Sale: takes place in the fall. Tackle some holiday shopping
early!
Giving Fund Campaign: in non-live auction
years, the main fundraising vehicle for OVPTA is a giving fund campaign,
where families and friends of OV are asked to make a tax-deductible donation
to the PTA

Head Teacher: A Head Teacher is an assistant principal who provides
support for students, teacher and parents. Mary McDaniel is our Head Teacher
and she can be reached through the main office at 252-5500.

Illness/Accident: If your student becomes
ill or injured at school, s/he will be given emergency first aid treatment
by a nurse or another adult. You will be contacted immediately. If you
are unreachable, we will call the emergency contact numbers you gave the
office.
Inclement Weather / Snow: Families can find
out about delayed starts or school closures due to weather by checking
their TV or radio, or by logging on to the Seattle Schools website www.seattleschools.org.
Instrumental Music: Instruction in learning
to play an instrument is provided once a week for 30 minutes for students
in 4th and 5th grade.

Kickball: very popular playground activity
at OV
Kidmail: method of sending and receiving
information between home and school. This is as reliable as you think
it is!
Kindergarten: Our two full-day kindergarten
classes run from 9:15 am – 3:20 pm. Our three-quarter day kindergarten
class runs from 9:15 am – 1:30 pm

LAP Program: Additional support is provided
during the school day for students through the Learning Assistance Program.
Participation in this program is determined based on reading assessment
results.
Librarian: Denise Frederickson will introduce the world of books
to your student! Students visit the school library once each week for
30 minutes.
Lost & Found: If you are missing a clothing
item, lunchbox, or anything else, PLEASE check the lost & found located
by the lunchroom. Avoid having to dig through the pile by putting your
student’s name in anything that comes to school.
Lunch / Breakfast: Breakfast and lunch may
be purchased at school. Breakfast is served beginning at 9:00 am each
morning.

Math Coach: Jane Osterman is our math coach.
She provides support for teachers in improving mathematics instruction.
Medication: Distribution of medication at school is governed by
school district policy. Please check with the school nurse, Margaret Johanson,
about your student’s medication needs.

Multiarts: Liz Law, our multiarts teacher,
provides an integrated visual and performing arts curriculum for our students.
Students attend multiarts class twice each week for 30 minutes.
Multicultural Dinner: fall event where our
diverse families share their favorite family recipes from around the world

Parent Contact Information: Please keep
the school office informed of any changes so that we are able to reach
you in the event of an emergency.
Parent Palooza: Our annual welcome back
to school event for parents, Parent Palooza is a great way to find out
about Olympic View and about how you can become involved.
Parking: please be respectful of our neighbors when you park your
car. Please don’t block driveways.
Pets: Pets are not allowed at school unless a teacher gives special
permission as part of a student project or activity. Dogs (even on a leash)
are not allowed on school grounds.
Physical Education: Barbara Bruecher is
our PE teacher. Students attend PE twice each week for 30 minues.
Physical / Occupational Therapy: Occupational
and physical therapy are available for students who qualify.
Positive Discipline: The philosophy behind
the way interact with students at Olympic View. More information about

Recess: students will have several outdoor
recesses each day throughout the year. Please make sure your child is
appropriately dressed to be outside. In the cases of extreme weather,
students will have indoor recess, which will take place in the classroom,
with adult supervision.

School Banking: In conjunction with Washington
Mutual, Olympic View students can open savings accounts and make deposits
on Wednesday mornings between 9:00 and 9:15 am.
School Directory: Families can opt to have their names and phone
numbers printed in our school directory which is printed and distributed
to families each fall.
School Hours: are from 9:15 to 3:20. Students are considered late
if they arrive in class after 9:15 am.
School Meetings: These meetings take place at least twice each
month. The purpose of the meetings is to celebrate accomplishments, teach
expectations, and address issues that impact our school community. These
meetings are generally for students, but occasionally we invite our parent
community.
School Song: Eagles Float, Eagles Soar, Eagles fly on the wind...
Safety Patrol: 5th graders who monitior crosswalks before and after
school
Secretaries: Teresa Olmsted and Martha Burge
in the main office. Make them your friends!
Scrip: grocery and other store gift card
fundraising program. Available every morning in the front hall and via
kid mail!
Sibling pick-up: younger students with older
siblings at school can be “picked up” by that older sibling
a few minutes before the final bell rings at 3:20.

Speech Therapy: Speech therapy is provided
at school for students who qualify.
Special Education: A full range of special
education services are offered at Olympic View. Contact the school office

Student Council: Representatives from each
of our classrooms serve on our student council which organizes a yearly
service project, and addresses quality of life issues at Olympic View.

Tardy: Please come to the school office
for a pass if you arrive at school after 9:20 am.
Third grade camp: spring time event, 3 days and 2 nights at Camp
Indianola.
Transportation to and from school: Please
be sure to let the school office know of any changes in after school transportation
for your child before 3:00 pm. Changes must be communicated to the office
by the parent either with a signed note or telephone call.

Visitors: to ensure the safety of all students
and staff, visitors to the school must check in at the school office,
sign in, and wear a visitor badge for the duration of their visit.
Volunteer Coordinator: Sandy Warner is our
volunteer coordinator. She can help connect you with volunteer opportunities
that match your interests and skills.
Volunteers: We welcome parent and community
volunteers. Sandy Warner is our volunteer coordinator. She and your child’s
teacher can help match you with volunteer opportunities that interest
you. Any adults who volunteers in school must have a background check.
Forms for background checks can be found on our website or in the mail
office.
