The Multi-Arts Program at OV
Every student in our school comes to Multi-Arts classes (30 minutes) twice
each week in Room 100. Liz Law introduces students to the basic principles
in four art areas including: Visual Arts, Dance, Theatre, and Vocal Singing.
We believe it is important for students to have the opportunity to create,
perform, and respond to art in all four areas throughout the school year.
Various groupings allow students the chance to work on honing individual
skills as well as working with partners, small groups, the whole class,
and even whole school projects! Our students with special needs are always
included in grade-level appropriate classes and this helps us build a
strong sense of school community for our diverse student population.
We are always learning and teaching one another in Multi-Arts. Each time
a student’s work goes on display, the whole school is enriched and
invigorated, and new connections are made across subject areas and grade
levels. Through this interaction our community is renewed.
If you have some time and are interested in helping with displays of student
work, or assisting in the classroom, please contact Liz Law.
Related Arts Activities at OV
At Olympic View we are very fortunate to have Gloria Morrison teach
instrumental music,
to interested students in grades 4-5 on Mondays. Then, on Tuesday and
Wednesday mornings, talented parent and professional actress, Heather
Hawkins, leads a primary
and intermediate choir. Ms. Hawkins is also responsible for a highly
successful after-school drama program
for interested students in grades 3-5.
Visiting Artists
Thanks to our PTA in 2006-07, we had the pleasure of two visiting guest
artists who are also parents of Olympic View students. Heather Hawkins’
engaging theatre workshops introduced students in all the classes to the
fundamentals of drama and prepared them for the Olympic View production
of “Three Musketeers”. Chic
Streetman shared his wonderful music and singing of both traditional and
original songs with all the classes. Some of the older students penned
lyrics to create their own blues tune and performed it live for their
classmates!
This year with the support of our PTA we were able to welcome back the
very talented Heather Hawkins to continue her work with the students as
choir and drama director. For more information visit our student
activities page.
