Community Engagement Meetings - Curriculum Alignment: Seattle Public Schools is committed to providing an excellent education so that all students graduate from high school ready for college, careers and life. One of the key strategies of our strategic plan, Excellence for All, is to align curriculum across the district to provide consistently high standards in every classroom. The high school curriculum alignment projects will result in aligning high school Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Languages core classes to college-ready standards, revising course offerings in academic subjects to better prepare students for college, careers and life and providing professional development for teachers to support their delivery of the aligned curricula.

Please join Seattle Public Schools instructional leaders to learn more about the work of aligning curriculum. We’ll discuss our alignment work and provide more information about the upcoming instructional materials adoption for high school Language Arts courses to be followed by adoptions for World Languages and Social Studies for 4th and 8th grades.

Interpretation Services Will Be Available At All Meetings

Current Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Coordinator: Arden Hellmann 206-527-3206/ardenhellmann@comcast.net

Library Volunteers (throughout the year): Denise Fredrickson, our School Librarian, is looking to fill the following volunteer shifts in the OV Library. (Each day and time is a single volunteer shift.)
9:50 – 10:30 Mondays & Wednesdays | 10:35 -11:20 Tuesdays | 11:25 – 12:05 Thursdays | 12:40 - 1:20 Fridays

Live Auction (Saturday, Feb. 6 event prep work) If you could take a moment to consider if you, or someone you know, could contribute to this event by volunteering, we would greatly appreciate it. (If one of these jobs doesn't work for you, we will have many volunteer opportunities the day of the event where you could help as well)

  • Procurement: (Everyone): There are at least two ways to participate in this process:
    • 1) We need everyone out their procuring items where you shop, exercise, take your kids to sports(gymnastics, soccer, YMCA, etc.) or other activities (art, dance, music, etc.), eat dinner, buy groceries, go on vacation, go to the theater, breath, etc., etc.... Right now we have 15 items, and we need 350 items.
    • 2) Pound the pavement/knock on doors with a group or one other person in specific neighborhoods, asking businesses if they would like to donate. We need a few people to help with this.
Catalog Layout: (1 volunteer) We are looking to go with the same look as last year's catalogue, so this person will need to have access to the Adobe Illustrator program. The majority of the work for this job is done the last 2-3 weeks of January, some prep work could be done prior, so that the last 2 weeks is just inputting Auction items. There will be some coordinating with the business who is printing the catalogue as well.
  • Sponsorship/Ad Sales: (1 volunteer) This job includes asking small local business to put an advertisement in our catalogue or to sponsor us somehow. This is usually, but not always, small local businesses that would like to help out, but don't have an appropriate item for the auction. This job would be over by the time the catalog goes to print.

Yearbook Committee (throughout the year): We are pulling together a new yearbook committee to put together this year’s OV yearbook. Do you like taking pictures at school events and in classrooms? Can you help organize and collect photos? Do you like building photo memories for your children? Sounds like this is the fun and creative volunteer opportunity for you.
