We are continuing to work on our family heritage interviews. Last week, students received a note taking form for writing a profile about an important person in their lives. This could be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or other family member. Giving children a background in their own history helps them to make connections to history that has happened in other parts of the world.
Our next project will be to interview a veteran for Veteran’s Day stories. This person may have served in any branch of the military (including the Coast Guard.) If no relatives are available for the interview, students may interview friends, neighbors or other community members who have served.
These interviews help to preserve important pieces of family history. Many families have discovered information about elderly family members that might have been lost without this research.
I hope to see everyone at the Multicultural Potluck tomorrow night. This is a great way to represent your heritage and show your family pride.
At this time, I have comfort kits for fewer than half of the students in the class. I realize that many of you have ordered the comfort kits from the PTA. It would help me if you could please indicate on the homework calendar return slip if you have already sent a comfort kit, if you ordered a comfort kit from the PTA, or if you are still planning on preparing a comfort kit at home.
I would like to encourage everyone to do this as soon as possible. You never know when a disaster may strike!
Please be sure your child brings a coat or sweater every day!
