“When I am honest I can learn and help others to be giving.”

From Living Values Program Book

Do you skim the articles, glance at a distance?  If you do, you are missing out on important information.  This is my way of communicating with the whole family community at North Beach.  I count on you reading the information.  Be sure to read it all today, you might have an opportunity to attend the Seeds of Compassion Event this Saturday.

This month we begin the study of honesty as we look at our virtues.  If you haven’t seen the wonderful clip yet about North Beach on King 5’s Healthlink for children, take a look; it is a wonderful piece about what we do at North Beach to encourage positive relationships.  Thank you to Jeannine Moore and her cameraman for putting us in a positive spotlight.

This Saturday, the Seeds of Compassion Event begins at QWEST field.  His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be in attendance.  North Beach has been given a significant amount of tickets (50) for our school but not enough for everyone.  If you and another member of your family would like to attend this Saturday’s presentations of the Seeds of Compassion, please send me your name and why you would like to attend.  We will use a lottery system and give each family 2 tickets to go this Saturday.  Please be sure you will attend, I would not want tickets to go unused because it has been a coveted event for schools.  If we do not use all the tickets, I will donate them to other schools.  You only have until Thursday to let me know.  I will send tickets home with your child or you can pick them up if you choose.  I know it will be an incredible event and a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of us.  You can e-mail me if it is easier.

GREAT NEWS; North Beach will be getting one portable next year.  YAHOO!  We also have 342 students enrolled.  This is a great number and if everyone shows, we will have a very full school.  We have not made any decisions about classroom configurations or teachers yet but when we do, you will be the first to know!  Once we have made this decision and you would like to make classroom requests for next year, I will accept them; just know that not all requests are feasible or possible.

And more good news; we do have a process to apply for a waiver for Saxon Math next year.  Thank you to Linda Hoste and Rosalind Wise for attending our last General PTA meeting and giving us this opportunity.  Thanks too for our students who performed for us and to Mark Lilly for helping with the singing.

The school year is moving by quickly, with summer around the corner, I know these next 3 months will be gone before we know it.  Remember, this summer our building is getting a nice new makeover so please do not plan on any activities happening at North Beach.  I know the playground will also be off limits so start scouting out great playgrounds for fun.

Peace, Joanne
