“What makes the desert beautiful, “ said the little prince, ‘ is that somewhere it hides a well.”

The Little Prince, Antoine De Saint-Expupery, 1943

What makes North Beach beautiful?  Tours this time of year always gets one thinking about our schools and what makes them unique and wonderful.  I for one have touted the students and what great kids they are which is a compliment to all of you and what a fine job you have done!  Our staff is another attribute to our school and our community.

So then, where is that well and what is hidden there?  As I begin to think about next year and what my purpose is as your principal, I am looking at our strengths, our areas of need and of course where we need to improve.  This is a jewel of a school and I would like to see it be known for more than Saxon math.  We have the ability to make this a state of the art school with the support of parents, the knowledge of our teachers and the site that we have.  I am excited by the possibility of a school garden more technology and the upgrades in our facility that will happen this summer.

Begin thinking about this.  What is North Beach’s hidden well?  What do you come to the school for, why do you think we are unique, what should we work on, and what are our needs.  I know I am formulating my non-negotiables and ideas, and I would love to hear yours.

Don’t forget, this Friday, January 25th is our next Friday Social right after the bell rings to come in.  You bring the goodies; I will cover the hot chocolate!

I also wanted to give you all another heads up about the upcoming pick up policies that will change on Feb. 1.  I put this out last week and the week before so you would have lots of time to talk to your students and adjust.

Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 3:10 outside the south doors by their classrooms.  Please wait outside until the bell rings to pick up your child and then come in unless it is pouring rain.  Grades 1-5 will be dismissed at 3:15 out the door closest to them.  Please designate a spot to meet your child so there is no confusion.  Again, unless it is pouring down rain, please wait outside until the bell rings.  The safety of the students is a non-negotiable for all of us and this is why we had to look at our dismissal procedures and make a change for the better.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping with the tours.  You are doing a fantastic job and I appreciate you.

Peace and Happiness,

Joanne Bowers/Principal
