the . . .studio pictures In multi arts class students learn that "whoever you are, wherever you are, all over this world"*, you create art work. And that through art we can learn more about other people and places. This year we begin with Africa. The Seattle Art Museum is reinstalling its African collection this year. This means that many great resources will be available to learn at school and home about Africa. Also, PBS is airing a superb series on Africa Sunday evenings in September (check local listings KCTS). For our art projects we are beginning with textiles from three different regions: Kente from Ghana, Kanga from the West Coast, and Adire from the Yoruba people of Nigeria. Posted here are just a few images we are starting from. We have also had a great guest visitor to the upper teams, Justin Reznick, Joanna's brother who has recently returned from some extensive traveling in Africa. |
