ML King Elementary School

Student Mentoring Program

Vision:
In addition to being academically ready, all ML King students will be socially and emotionally prepared for middle school.

Mission:
To touch the soul of students and help eliminate academic achievement barriers.

Goal:
To provide additional support to those students who will benefit from a closer personal relationship with a staff professional. The program description calls for each staff member to serve as a mentor to a student that is not in his or her program or class.

Activities:
Mentors will meet with students a least once a week before, after, or during school hours (if time is available).

Mentors will call students at home twice a month to touch bases.

Mentors will acknowledge student's birthdays and other holidays with gift certificates (from building funds) or other similar recognition mementos.

Mentors should find at least five occasions during the school year to have lunch (on or off campus) with student.
