Our vision at McClure …"is to provide opportunities to its students that meet their individual learning needs and ensure all students have experiences which promote academic, social, and emotional growth.

From the Principal

Dear McClure Families and Prospective McClure Families,

Our mission at McClure Middle School is centered on creating a community-connected environment that promotes each student’s academic and personal success.  As an instructional leader I strive to provide the necessary support for staff, students, and parents that will promote each student’s academic achievement.  Our students must be prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world that is increasingly more complex.  McClure has focused on reading, writing, and math improvement for the past several years, and this will continue to be increasingly more important over the next few years as demands for excellence and high expectations for all students continue to grow.

We are doing an extensive amount of work to identify students needing extra help or direct instruction in all three of these areas.  Students are being asked to meet higher standards academically and more importantly, to demonstrate proficiency in meeting those standards.  In order to ensure that our learners are successful, we have our “Double Reading” and “Double Math” programs.  These allow student who show a need, to have two periods of reading or math each day to continue skill development and provide additional support for them to be successful in their Language Arts and Math classes.  In addition, each month the two teachers, a counselor, the grade level administrator and the principal meet to review students’ progress and develop interventions when needed.  These monthly “MINI SIT” meetings allow us to monitor student progress, develop immediate interventions, and ensure that students do not “slip through the cracks.”  Our content and grade level teams continue to work hard to meet the challenges and assist our students in successfully meeting and demonstrating these standards.

Our Building is organized in teaching blocks that allow each student in grades 6, 7, and 8 to have two main teachers for the core subjects: one teacher for Math and Science and one teacher for Language Arts and Social Studies and while all of our classrooms provide a rigorous environment, to keep all students working at a high level we offer two blocks of honors classes at each grade level.  The block teachers at each grade level work together to plan and integrate the curriculum so our learners work with only two main teachers for four hours of their school day.  This has also allowed us to offer Science as a full year core subject for all students.

During the other two periods of the school day the students’ schedule includes Exploratories that are a quarter, a semester or year long classes.  These exploratory classes include: Physical Education, Swimming, Foreign Language, Graphic Technology and Broadcasting, Visual Art, Performing Art, World Cultures, and Music.

The middle school years offer benefits and challenges to both students and their parents.  The staff at McClure has also committed to working with each student’s family to ensure that we have strong support for our young learners as they face the new challenges that young adolescence brings.   We believe we have created a school that is just right for middle school learners.  Join us to find out more…

Our web site will give you more up-to-date information about our school.  Plan to come for a visit in January and February to see our school in action.   Being actively involved at McClure, whether you are a student, parent, or community member, helps ensure our staff's mission of making McClure Middle School a great community for all students. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please email or call me.

Sincerely,

Sarah J. Pritchett, Principal
