6th Grade Mask Making Project

This is to let you know about a science art project which all the 6th grade science classes will be experiencing. Local artist Stuart Nakamura, who has worked extensively with students, will work with each science class to create ANIMAL MASKS. This project will be woven into the science animal reports your students are working on to reinforce learning. It is part of the Art Infusion program at McClure.

What’s needed?
Three to four adults are needed each day from 9:45 a.m.-2:15p.m. to help:

  • Cut cardboard,
  • Students cut out cardboard templates,
  • With low-level heat gluing (students are not allowed to use these),
  • Help students with painting and mask decorating (more gluing)
  • And to help with labeling and display.

Week #1 February 25-28th in Ms. Parker’s room
Week #2 March 17-20th in Ms. Littlefield’s room
Week #3 April 11, 14-16th in Ms. Quinn’s room

Please feel free to volunteer in any classroom (or even all of them) for a portion or the entire time!

Jen Parker at (206) 252-1900 or japarker@seattleschools.org

Any help is appreciated; we need you!

Here are just a few of the masks made before.
