Successful Schools in Action

McClure is a unique community-based school that is a microcosm of today’s world. Our diverse student and teacher population continually strives to accept and appreciate one another’s similarities and differences. While attracting half its students from the immediate neighborhood, McClure reaches students city-wide.

Our broad student base, representing 28 countries and 50% students of color, enriches the experience of every student. This cross-cultural learning atmosphere, in a small school setting, provides an accepting and open learning environment and prepares students to successfully develop—academically and socially—in a diverse world.

We would like you to know we have the best interests of students in mind and will work hard to help them achieve an excellent education. As we make decisions at McClure we consider three questions:

1. Is it in the best interest of the student?

2. Is it in the best interest of everyone in the McClure community?

3. Is it reasonable and realistic?

We are very glad you are part of our McClure family.

Community Learning Center

A community-learning center is a school by day-and a school by night.

It also a year-round meeting place, a center for delivering community services, the heart of neighborhood. At the end of the regular school day, or in some cases while it’s still under way, a community learning center operates adult education programs and other services that are needed in its neighborhood. Leadership and decision-making are shared among community stakeholders.

The Community Learning Center coordinates after school programming for students with our Out of School Time (OST) programs from 2:30 – 4:30 pm Monday – Thursday, but has its eyes set on a much larger goal. The vision for the Community Learning Center (CLC) at McClure is to incorporate programming for families and adults, in addition to after school programming for students. McClure’s CLC will bridge the gap between school and community by utilizing the school building as a resource for community members by offering non-traditional classes and activities
