ELL Breakfast on December 13, 2007

Topic: Inventive Spelling

The ELL Breakfast is on December 13, 8:30-9:30am. It is for parents of Kindergartners, preschoolers and 1st graders who want to learn about Inventive Spelling. The Kindergarten teachers will present a lesson on how they teach writing by using inventive spelling.

Inventive spelling refers to the practice of allowing or encouraging beginning readers to write and spell the way that makes sense to them. The idea is that the act of writing, for the beginner, is more important than correct spelling. Eventually, the student will learn the correct spelling.

After the 15 minute lesson with questions and answers, the parents are invited to the library for a continental breakfast and an information session presented by Maple Librarian Ms. Lloyd on our multi-cultural books, wordless books and the parent book check-out system.
