Service-Learning
@
Madison Middle School
Service-Learning is:
- A method of teaching and learning that combines academic work with service to one's neighborhood, school and community. Students LEARN BY DOING through a clear application of skills and knowledge to real-life situations in education, the environment, human needs and public safety.
Through Service-Learning:
- Students discover that their energy and talents are both
needed and appreciated by their communities.
- Students become active and responsible citizens.

Other service-learning project ideas:
- Students participate in a stream restoration project while
learning of the science involved in their service.
- Students act as peer tutors for students at a younger grade
level, gaining instruction and communication skills as well as
reinforcing their knowledge and comprehension of an academic
subject.
- Students adopt a park or beach by learning about the ecosystem
of the area as they care for their piece of land.
