Our school district gives us an excellent resource page that can be accessed at home. During the next few weeks I am going to have the 3rd through 5th graders use this page during their library instruction time so that they can become familiar with it. They may want to access this resource at home. The district library resource website has some great links that the fourth graders can use for their northwest history research and the 5 th graders can use for their American history reports. The third grade may want to use it for Egypt research.
Often our children go straight to Google for research information. Google gives great results but they can be confusing and it can be difficult for children to sort-out which sites are the most helpful. With these databases you know that they have had a filter applied to them already, they have been screened for use with children and for educational purposes.
How To: Use the district's homework help page:
1-Go to http://www.seattleschools.org
2- From the blue left hand menu click on Administrative Dept. and Services.
3-Click on the Instructional Services link
4-Click on the blue menu to the left "Library Services"
Or you can go to the link below and then mark it in your favorites: http://www.seattleschools.org/area/library/stuindex.xml
Or the public library's homework help page. http://www.spl.org/default.asp?pageID=collection_db_list&dbPage=4
