National Merit Scholarship Eligibility
PSAT is the test used for National Merit Finalist and scholarship eligibility. It is taken in a student's junior year. Sophomores can take the test for practice.
SAT II (Subject Area) Testing
Many selective colleges require subject area test scores (SAT II) in addition to a standardized college board score (ACT or SAT I). It may help to take these subject tests early. For example, if you take a Biology course in 10th grade, look into taking the Biology SAT II late in your sophomore year. Contact the counseling office at your school for more information.
Advanced Placement Tests
Many high schools offer Advanced Placement Courses. These courses prepare students to take a May standardized test. Many colleges offer course advancement or actual credit for good AP test scores. The courses are a free part of many high school programs.
Free online ACT/SAT practice tests.
