Ed began his career in education in 1993 first as a Kindergarten teacher then as a 7th grade math teacher before teaching 4th and 5th grade. His educational highlight was having his own son in his Kindergarten class while teaching in Tokyo, Japan. He has been at Lawton for the past four years. Ed holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology from San Francisco State University and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Washington’s Danforth Principal Program. When not at school, Ed can be found spending quality time with his family and serving at his church. |

Mike started teaching in 1974 after graduating from the University of Washington. His first job was working with 5th graders in Smithfield Plains, South Australia. He then moved to Phoenix, Arizona and worked in a bilingual kindergarten classroom for 8 years. He started at Lawton in 1989 and has worked with 4th & 5th graders. He enjoys project based learning with an emphasis on problem solving and technology. |

Peter has been teaching at Lawton for 11 years and in Seattle for 21 years. Over the years, Peter has developed the Tetragami paper folding system to promote spatial . Peter has a 10 year old adopted girl from China.

Steve has been teaching at Lawton since 1998. He received his teaching certification from Seattle Pacific University having been drawn into education following the birth of his son. A graduate of the University of Oregon in Visual Design, Steve's first career was an illustrator and commercial animator. He occasionally exhibits his films and paintings around Seattle.

For the last 27 years, Shirley has taught children and adults in both public and private schools. She has a BA from Michigan State University, a Montessori credential from University of Puget Sound and a Masters degree in Instructional Strategies from Antioch University. She is an amateur naturalist and loves spending time at the beach or in the woods. She enjoys gardening, sailing and working on her home.

Lyon has been teaching for 11 years after graduating with a Master’s Degree in Education from Portland State University. He began his career in the Seattle area before moving to New York City where he taught 2nd and 3rd grade in Brooklyn. While there he worked extensively with Staff and the Columbia Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project to develop curriculum for elementary students. Lyon enjoys playing guitar, running, and hiking in Discovery Park. He can often be found at the playgrounds of Magnolia with his two young children. This is his third year at Lawton. |

Tessie Wong is in her 17th year of teaching. She began teaching at Orca Elementary and has been at Lawton since 2007. Tessie received her degree in Psychology and her teaching credentials from the University of Washington. She enjoys bike riding, playing softball and traveling (especially to the Oregon Coast) and being with her three year old daughter, Keira.

Sue Schultz, Special Education Sue has been teaching for 13 years, 9 of them at Lawton. She has a BA in Economics from the University of Minnesota, an MA in Special Education from the University of Arizona, and a law degree from Lewis & Clark College. Sue practiced law for 12 years before beginning her teaching career. She supervises the Reading with Rover program at Lawton. In her free time, Sue enjoys hiking, biking and traveling. |

Kathleen Dial, Librarian/Educator Kathleen has visited every elementary school in Seattle through her work as a consultant and Compensatory Education teacher. In various teaching capacities she has worked with all grades, K-5. She feels most “at home” at Lawton where she has been for 21 years. She loves reading, gardening, bicycling and hiking. Kathleen has her BS from the University of Wisconsin and her Masters in Education in Reading from Western Washington University.

Nancy Hunter, Speech Therapist Nancy received her Masters in Speech Pathology from California State University, Fresno. She also has a regular education teaching credential. After teaching in numerous States, she landed at Lawton and has been happily working here for 14 years. Her interests include volunteering in the Seattle School District, keeping up with her 2 boys’ schedules, entertaining and traveling.

Susan Krizanc, Special Education Susan has been teaching at Lawton for 10 years. She has an Honors BA in English Literature from York University and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Toronto, Canada. She was born in England and lived there after college. She enjoys reading, art, traveling and collecting antiques.

Stephen McIntyre, Technology Specialist This is Steve's second year at Lawton. He has been with Seattle Schools for 7 years as a technology teacher at Franklin High School and Loyal Heights Elementary School. Prior to coming to SSD, Steve taught 5th grade, and 7th/8th grade mathematics/science for a number of years. He has undergraduate degrees and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. As a Professional Ski Instructor, Steve has a passion for skiing, but also enjoys fly-fishing and road and mountain biking.

Cheryl Parks, Physical Education Cheryl has been the Physical Education Specialist at Lawton since 1994. Her primary goals are to promote life-long health and fitness by offering as many opportunities to her students using the “Success Oriented Physical Education” model. She has a BS in PE, a BA in Elementary Education, a Masters in Educational Technology and her Administration Certificate. In her free time, Cheryl enjoys traveling, catching up on reading and spending time with family and friends.

Carrie holds a BS in Occupational Therapy from the University of North Dakota. This is her 6th year in the Seattle School District. Carrie has a particular interest in sensory integration and how a child's sensory world impacts school performance. She feels Lawton is a wonderful school and she has really enjoyed being part of the Lawton Community. She loves to watch her own children navigate the world. In her free time, Carrie enjoys hiking, camping, volleyball, creating cards and photography.

Dorcas is a K-5 reading tutor, librarian assistant, as well as a lunchroom and playground supervisor. She received her BA in Interior Design from the University of Washington. Her husband, Eiichi, is an oyster grower. They have four children and eight grandchildren. She loves to do Japanese Calligraphy, sumi painting and plays the piano.

Carol has been teaching since 1972 and has been at Lawton since 1983. She attended the University of Maryland and received her BA from the University of Washington. All three of Carol’s children are Lawton graduates. Her interests include family, reading, writing, travel and sports. |

This is Rich’s 14th year at Lawton. He is a graduate of the University of Washington in Business Administration and Education. He enjoys chasing his two children around, playing sports with friends and learning to play guitar. |

Connie is in her 36th year of teaching. She began her teaching career at North Queen Anne and has been at Lawton for 27 years. Connie is a graduate of Central Washington State College and did her fifth year at the University of Washington. All of Mrs. Locke’s students know that Halloween is her favorite holiday and that Husky football is dear to her heart.

Susan studied philosophy at Pacific Lutheran University, graduating in 1973, and received her Masters in Special Education from the University of Washington in 1979. This is her second year at Lawton. Previously, Susan taught at Blaine K-8 most recently as a kindergarten teacher. Prior to that she taught 6th grade and was also reading specialist for grades 1 through 8. She loves to travel, hike at Mt. Rainier, swim, and read.

Genya has a Masters in Education from Teacher's College, Columbia University and a BA in Psychology from the University of Chicago. She previously taught Pre-K at T.T. Minor on Capitol Hill and in East Harlem and Chinatown in the New York City Public Schools. Genya has also worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor, and she has exhibited her art work in Montana.
