Our last week before Thanksgiving Break!! Wow, how the time flies. This week will be chalk full! We have a science assessment and our Small Moments Writers Celebration on Friday. We will be inviting our 4th grade buddies as our special guests to our celebration. Also, we have our first field trip coming up Dec.1! Please make sure the permission slip and fee are returned by this Friday.
In Math we will review basic number-line concept, practice counting on the number line, introduce addition and subtraction on the number line, practice telling time to the hour and the half-hour, and introduce the Frames-and-Arrows routine.
As we come to the end of the Small Moments unit in Writers Workshop students will learn to include their reactions, thoughts, observations, and feelings into their stories. We will also work on writing effective story endings, suggesting that it often helps to stay closer to the heart of the story rather than writing away from it. In preparation for the celebration students will choose one piece to revise and edit with their writing partners.
In Science students will explore the relationship between the height of the starting point and the energy of a ball when it leaves the ramp. Together the class will plan and design a fair test in order to answer questions about the behavior of balls. In order to conduct a fair test, all variables must be kept the same except the one that is being tested.
In Reading I was delighted to see that most students recorded all three days of reading on their reading log! Thank you parents for supporting your children in completing their homework.
I look forward to seeing you all at conferences,
Laura Tutt
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate;
The first one said, "Oh my it's getting late."
The second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But I don't care."
The fourth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
The fifth one said, "Let's run and run and run."
"Wooooooo" went the wind,
And out went the lights.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
