The second graders wrapped up their Wampanoag unit with a wonderful "CELEBRATION"! We showed off all the writing, drawing, pottery and drama skills that were learned over the past two months. What a success!

*Now we are onto a new year and new things to learn. During our reading block the second graders will be broken up into four different reading groups: The Arctic Foxes, The Polar Bears, The Wolves and The Sled Dogs. Each group will be working on different areas of reading development and will culminate by studying the namesake of their reading group. Spelling and work in our National Geographics will continue within each group.

*Our next science kit will be covering SOILS (not quite as messy as the LIQUIDS unit, but messy none-the-less!). At the end of this unit we will be going on our annual Mercer Slough field trip, which is fun rain or shine.

*In March we will be starting a unit, in conjunction with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) who has developed a unit
on orca whales, more specifically "Springer" the orphaned orca that was captured and relocated to her homeland. We will also be going on a field trip to The Seattle Aquarium where we will enjoy the new facility and participate in a whale workshop!
